Its internal spring-wound mechanisms tick audibly in the silence, and its optical lenses glow a pale amber when it detects intruders. Sentinels are programmed with challenge-response protocols, demanding passphrase tokens from those who approach restricted areas. The cipher for the passphrase is engraved on the left shoulder plate — worn, but legible to anyone who knows where to look.
