The permafrost stalker is a six-limbed predator native to the frozen tundra of the Hollow North. Its pale, translucent hide makes it nearly invisible against snow and ice, and its elongated claws allow it to drag prey beneath drifts before delivering a killing bite. Its most feared technique is the drag under — a sudden eruption from beneath the snowpack that can swallow a traveler whole before their companions can react. When threatened or cornered, it exhales a cone of frozen air and razor ice shards. Local hunters call this the white exhalation and dread it above all else. Territorial and patient, the stalker may follow prey for days before striking. Wherever it walks, frost spreads beneath its feet, coating exposed stone and packed earth in a treacherous film — another reason experienced guides refuse to follow one into narrow ravines. *Hollow North lore:* Born where winter claimed lives in moments of betrayal. These shades drift frozen ridgelines, keening at the edge of hearing, drawn to warmth as a moth is to fire — with equally lethal results for the source.
